The bible says that “Trials Work Patience”..James 1: 2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you encounter trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Allow perseverance to finish its work, so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. When God gives you instruction for you to fulfill you will probably say “that’s not God’ and continue on with what you are doing. The fact that God gave you an instruction means that it’s ‘faith testing time.’ So what is ‘patience’ anyway? And why do we need trials to ‘work’ patience? Patience is the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset. Trials are the conduit or tool God uses, so you can build the capacity to accept, tolerate delay, experience trouble or suffering without getting upset. He tests you in order to show you how much integrity you have, while He reveals why you serve Him in the first place. When various trials come, we often feel like God is so far away. That is because trials are also tests of integrity. He looks on your response in those trials, which He has allowed in order to help you. Trials ‘work’ patience. In other words trials are necessary in order for you to exercise your trust in God without complaining and asking a million questions of why this and why that. God watches closely in your trials and says not a thing. That is why you feel alone in a trial. However God is the closest to us in trials so that He can monitor our responses and reaction to the trial. Additionally He is the closest to us when these things occur in order that we will be able to endure it. Because without Him we would not be able to do it alone. The goal is to persevere without complaining. Patience is not just something like a ‘sit and wait’ stance while having a nasty attitude. Patience is so much more because it builds our capacity to endure without getting upset while building trust in the One Who brings us through it.
