Do Not Disturb!

Whenever God sees that you are getting too comfortable in your mess, He will step in with circumstances will be an inconvenience to you. He does this to test our hearts, to overturn what is in our hearts in order that we may give Him the worthy sacrifice that He is looking for. When a person’s heart starts to harden, He will put you in a situation that will go against pleasing man, so that you can please Him instead. We are not to harden our hearts and so He assists us in providing ways to reactions to how much we really love Him. It is when circumstances arrive that God Himself shows up and is calling you to hear Him. When God is testing, it is never convenient. (Hebrews 3:8-15)

When Jesus called His twelve disciples, He told them to drop what they are doing and follow Him.

Matthew 4:18-22 New International Version (NIV)

18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 20 At once they left their nets and followed him.

21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

The verses say ‘they immediately’ left what they were doing and followed Him.

When Jesus spoke to the man who wanted to bury his father, the man said he had to first bury him and then he would follow Christ. But Jesus said ‘let the dead bury the dead.’

The Cost of Following Jesus

Luke 9

57 As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”58 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”59 He said to another man, “Follow me.”But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”61 Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.”62 Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

To proclaim the Kingdom of God, you must do how it’s done in the Kingdom of God.

Following Christ is never convenient. It’s hard work filled with ridicule at times and most of the time with hate if you are doing God’s work correctly. As we do God’s work correctly, then when He needs us to follow what He needs to be done, we drop everything and tend to what He wants to do in us. We are His hands and feet as He dwells within us. Therefore wherever He wants to go, we go whenever He asks regardless of our own plans. He is testing you for His service. He is testing to see if you will wake up so that you will avoid staying asleep in denial.  The Word/Christ is at the door and He is knocking.  Will you open the door and do what He asks or will you leave the ‘do not disturb’ sign on the door? And if we cannot respond with “Yes Lord, when and where do you want me to go. Then we are NOT fit for service in His Kingdom, and it will be impossible to do on earth as it is in heaven.

Luke 12:36
Then you will be like servants waiting for their master to return from the wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks, they can open the door for him at once.

Following God has a cost. It will cost you your wants and your flesh. The question is are you willing to pay it.
